BASIN
LAW ENFORCEMENT ACADEMY
The
Permian Basin Law Enforcement
Academy offers training and certification
courses for peace officers in the Permian
Basin region.
A 21-week certification course and a series
of quarterly courses are available through
the academy. On-line testing is also now
available for the Basic Peace officer exam, Basic Jailer exam, and
Investigative Hypnosis exam. The benefits to the online testing
include
immediate test results, convenience, and cost savings.
The Texas commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and
Education (TCLEOSE) sets the standards for certification of peace
officers
in Texas. Each certified academy in the State has an advisory board
which
is responsible for establishing entry requirements and rules and
regulations
for the academy.

CRIMINAL
JUSTICE PROGRAM (CJD)
Program Description
The Permian Basin Regional Planning Commission (PBRPC) Criminal
Justice Program assists local governments and non-profit entities
with
the development of programs and projects designed to address particular
crime related community problems.
The program also coordinates the grant application review and priority
process required by the Criminal
Justice Division (CJD) of the
Governor's Office,
Responsibilities
CJD develops guidelines and rules, monitors grant program operations
and fiscal compliance, and administers the grants awarded by the
Governor.
At the regional level, PBRPC's Criminal Justice Advisory Committee
(CJAC)
is responsible for reviewing and setting priorities for all criminal
justice applications. The Committee is composed of non -profit,
mental
health, juvenile justice, law enforcement, victims services education,
prosecution/courts, drug abuse/prevention agencies and concerned
citizens.
Grant Application Program Categories
General Victim Assistance - Direct Services Programs: The
purpose of
this program is to provide services and assistance directly to victims
of
crime to speed their recovery and aid them through the criminal
justice
process. Services may include the following: responding to the emotional
and physical needs of crime victims; assisting victims in stabilizing
their
lives after a victimization; assisting victims to understand and
participate in
the criminal justice system; and providing victims with safety and
security.
Violent Crimes Against Women Criminal Justice and Training
Projects - Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Dating Violence, and
Stalking Programs: The purpose of this funding is to assist
in developing
and strengthening effective law enforcement, prosecution and court
strategies to combat family violence, sexual assault, dating violence
and
stalking crimes against women and to develop and strengthen victim
services in such cases.
General Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Programs:
The purpose of the this program is to support programs that prevent
violence in and around schools and to improve the juvenile justice
system and
develop effective education, training, prevention, diversion, treatment,
and rehabilitation programs in the area of juvenile delinquency.
Criminal Justice Programs: The purpose of this program is
to reduce
crime and improve the criminal justice system.
